Meaning

This verse is a playful back-and-forth at the door: the friends call out to the young parrot of a girl still sleeping, and she answers that she is coming and asks them not to call so sharply. They say they know her clever tongue of old; she retorts that they are the clever ones, then yields and asks whether everyone has arrived, and they tell her to come out and count for herself. What matters, they remind her, is to sing the wondrous one who slew the mighty elephant and can crush the strength of every foe.
