Research

Independent turbulence-modelling projects, documented as case studies: the problem, the method, and results validated against published data.

Anisotropic Spalart–Allmaras in OpenFOAM

A custom OpenFOAM turbulence model extending an anisotropic Reynolds-stress hypothesis to Spalart–Allmaras: baselines verified against NASA and DNS data; recovers the DNS ordering of the normal stresses and drives square-duct secondary flow at DNS-comparable magnitude where stock SA gives exactly zero.

A DNS→LES hybrid testbed on Xcompact3d

One solver, two fidelities: grid-converged DNS of the Taylor–Green vortex (peak dissipation within 1.2% of a published 512³ reference), a priori subgrid analysis, matched coarse-grid LES, and a DNS→LES handoff — DNS carries the dissipation peak, then a spectrally restricted restart hands the decay to the coarse grid at an eighth of the cost.

Sep 2022 to Aug 2026

PhD in Engineering (CFD) - University of Edinburgh · EPSRC iCASE with AkzoNobel

Wall-modelled RANS of non-equilibrium boundary layers at roughness step changes, for ship-hull hydrodynamics. Technology-transfer lead for CFD research workflows into AkzoNobel's engineering team; ARCHER2 co-investigator (project e854); co-PI on a EuroHPC Extreme Scale Access award of 221k node-hours on LUMI-C; co-supervised with the University of Southampton and the US Naval Academy. Thesis submitted August 2026; awaiting viva.

2022 to Apr 2026

Teaching Assistant, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Thermofluids - University of Edinburgh

Tutorials and assessment in boundary-layer theory, heat transfer, and CFD for cohorts of 30 to 60, across Fluid Mechanics 2 and 4, Thermodynamics 4, and Thermofluids 3.

2021 to 2022

MSc Computational Fluid Dynamics, Distinction - Cranfield University

Numerical methods, HPC, turbulence modelling, and grid generation. Thesis: DNS of a turbulent flame kernel.

Aug 2019 to Aug 2020

Domain Head, Aerodynamics - Team Aeolus, PES University

Led CFD verification and aerodynamic data analysis for AIAA Design/Build/Fly 2020: second globally in the technical proposal phase. The COVID year ruled out building, testing, and travel to the fly-off, and the final classification reflects that.
