Andal's dream of the divine wedding
Vaaranam Aayiram is the sixth chapter of Nachiyar Tirumozhi. Andal tells a friend about a vivid dream in which Narayana arrives as her bridegroom and every stage of their wedding unfolds before her.
The verses move from the procession of a thousand elephants through the wedding rites: fixing the auspicious day, welcoming the groom, tying the protective thread, taking hands, circling the sacred fire, stepping on the grinding stone, making the puffed-rice offering, and joining the final procession.

Why Vaaranam Aayiram is recited at weddings
The hymn gives sacred poetic form to the sequence of a traditional wedding while placing Narayana at its centre. It is therefore recited in Sri Vaishnava and Tamil wedding traditions as an auspicious remembrance of Andal's devotion and her union with the Lord.
The final verse names the composition as Kodai's Tamil garland and gives the traditional blessing associated with learning and reciting it.
